Brief History of the Boy Scouts movement....

Have you ever wonder why Boy Scouts all over the world shakehand with their left rather than their right?

Well, here's a short history recording the event that led to the perculiar culture of the Boy Scouts movement, a culture picked up by the founder of the movement himself, Lord Baden-Powell.

It goes like this....

"WHEN COLONEL BADEN-POWELL entered the capital city of the *Ashanti people in 1890, he was met by one of the Chiefs who came to him holding out his left hand.

Baden-Powell held out his right in return but the Chief said: ''No, in my country the bravest of the brave shake with the left hand."

So began the "Left Handshake" of the world-wide brotherhood of Scouts.

Perhaps that was the spirit and symbolism of bravery Lord Baden-Powell was trying to instilled in the souls of the boys he groomed in the Scouts movement when he adopted the left handshake. And this message is crafted nicely in the virtues of the movement, as embedded in the Scout Promise & The Scout Law....

So who is this Lord Baden-Powell and the Ashanti people? Click the link below to known them better....
