Of late, I’ve been wondering what work – a career – has given me thus far besides that monthly income it provided me with and all that that have been attained…
Yes, it has provided me with much bless too: many of what that were attained were made possible by the income gained each month through the hours invested daily at work, in exchange for that dollars gained.
It was possible to buy a house and built a family when there’s an income from a steady job to offer as an assurance for the Bank to alllow me a long-termed loan; it was possible to provide the family with what were needed.
In all fairness, work was to be perceived with gratitude.
But what elses there are beyond these attainments and feelings of gratitude? What price have been paid, and what dues need paying further, down the years of having a job - a career - as menifested by Corporates wanting to tie us down with unfaltering commitments? But to what expense, to what price needing paying in exchange?
…I can helped today feeling and perceiving work like a process of getting a candy in exchange for our daily hours of commitment to a higher authority for a Corporate’s cause, shaped and ruled by the Corporate’s Board.
It’s horroring for me to realised that we are governed and made to measured up to Corporate’s “values” and “standards”: failing short of them, we’re put at the mercy of the Corporate judgement – through the punish and reward mechanism – meted to put us back in line, to deter others from questioning thoses “values” and “standards”; in doing so, to preserve dominance upon us!
To a certain extend, work is at the expense of giving up my true self, freedom, independence for the mere dollars I would gain monthly throughout my years of service – my years of life – given away in exchange for that candies in the jar sold in the Corporate store of perceived promises.
And in all irony, work was firstly meant as a mean to establish that independence, freedom and finding that defining self! Today, it entraps me in this tangle box of paradigm and inner personal hole!
